Recognition Awards Criteria
Global Caring Nurses Foundation, Inc. (GCNF) a 501 (c) (3), charitable organization, believes that global health volunteers, nursing mentors and nursing leaders are forces of change. They deserve special recognition for their extra effort and outstanding commitment for helping others in making their journey in global health nursing a successful and fulfilling one. Any member and staff of nursing organizations, hospitals, colleges of nursing, including the members of the GCNF Executive Board and Board of Governors are invited to endorse or nominate a nurse mentor and/or nurse leader to be recognized in the Spirit of Nightingale Gala Event, a campaign for honoring the global forces of change.

I. Honorees Criteria
A. NURSING MENTORS/LEADERS
These criteria are examples of the qualities and practices that foster good mentoring. A Nursing Mentor or a Nursing Leader need not display all of these qualities:
- Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses or Registered Nurses in good standing who, either / or:
a. Demonstrate or provide positive influence, guidance, and support to colleagues, student nurses and other members of the healthcare team
b. Facilitate and enable International nurses, student nurses and other nurses in acquiring the skills and resources to succeed scholarly and/or professionally, as well as transition easier into American nursing practice and culture
c. Support the mission of nursing in other memorable ways
d. Give a foundation to other nurses through advice/recommendations, access, and advocacy
e. Set the pace of nursing practice by nurturing and guiding colleagues as they embark or continue on their nursing career journey
- Acts as an advocate and leader in administrative and professional matters, such as publishing, grant writing, presentation of research findings, post-doctoral options and job placement (Nursing Leader).
- Must have evidence of either significant or meritorious contribution to the nursing profession (Nursing Leader).
B. GLOBAL HEALTH VOLUNTEERS
These criteria are examples of the qualities and practices that foster global health volunteers
a. Demonstrates selfless commitment to service and the betterment of society.
b. Founder(s) of organization(s) that is dedicated on serving others.
c. Coordinates or facilitates healthcare initiatives with impact to the community and/or globally that will last beyond their lifetime.
II. Nomination Process:
a. Simply complete the form and submit it along with a written summary about the Global Health Volunteers achievement and global health activities involvement.
b. Two letters of recommendation from the coordinator of the healthcare initiatives and from a sponsor in the community and any other information to support your nomination.
c. All nominees must submit a bio and photo, three weeks before the scheduled recognition event.
d. The endorsement form must be either sent on or before the deadline via e-mail, or fax or mail to the Awards Committee.
II. Nomination Process:
a. Simply complete the form and submit it along with a written summary about nominee’s significant contributions, achievements and global health activities involvement.
b. Two letters of recommendation from a sponsor in the community or healthcare organization and any other information to support your nomination.
c. All nominees must submit a bio and photo, three weeks before the scheduled recognition event.
d. The endorsement form must be either sent on or before the deadline via e-mail, or fax or mail to the Awards Committee.
III. Rules and Procedures
a. Members of the GCNF Board of Governors cannot participate as a nominee
b. Nomination /endorsement form must be completed and received at least four (4) weeks before the scheduled recognition event via e-mail, fax or mail to the Awards Committee.
c. All nominees must submit a bio and photo, three weeks before the scheduled recognition event
d. All forces of change: Global Health volunteers, Nursing Mentors and Leaders must be present to receive the award at the Spirit of Nightingale Appreciation (SONA)Night
e. The honorees’ name and picture will be published in the Keepsake Tribute booklet. We will also recognize their invaluable contribution to global health and nursing by posting their name on the website www.thecaringnurses.org.
